This annual event honors the late Dudley “Waxo” Green, retired golf writer, honorary PGA Member and
Charter Member of the Tennessee Golf Hall of Fame.

It took a sudden death playoff to determine the
2005 Waxo Green Pro-Pro Championship.
(Nashville, TN) This event is dedicated to Waxo Green. Waxo is a member of the Tennessee Golf Hall of Fame and wrote for the Nashville Banner for 44 years. He was arguably one of the most popular golf writers of all time.
After battling two of the hottest days in Nashville in recent memory, battling the tough but beautiful Richland Country Club, Kip Henley (Crossville) and his partner Scott Masters (Knoxville) went to a sudden death playoff against Randy Helton (Murfreesboro) and James Van De Griff (Knoxville) to determine this years Pro-Pro Champions. Each team shot –15 under par for two rounds in the Best Ball event. It took them four playoff holes to find the champion as Randy Helton birdied the fourth playoff hole. The winning team split the $5000 winners check. Last week at the Club Professional Championship, Randy Helton went 9 playoff holes to claim the fourth and final spot in the National Club Professional Championship to be played next year.
Hunt Gilliland (Chattanooga) and Tad Holley (Lookout Mountain) were tied for the lead after the first round and ended up in third place after shooting –14 under par on the 6900 yard course. Tied for fourth place was the teams of: Joey Hickman (Old Hickory) and Todd Jenkins (Old Hickory), Audie Johnson (Lebanon) and Loren Personett (Antioch), and Greg Wyatt (Crossville) and Mark Houser (Kingsport).
In all, 72 of Tennessee’s finest PGA Professionals competed at the 6,900 yard par 72 Richland Country Club in Nashville. The event in named and played in memory of longtime Middle Tennessee sports writer Dudley “Waxo” Green and proudly supported by Tom Bannen of Tom Bannen Chevrolet.
