RODGERS FAMILY CLAIMS FATHER-SON CHAMPIONSHIP
AFTER TWO HOLE SHOOTOUT
(Crossville, TN) Bryan Rodgers (Knoxville) and 15-year old son Brandon amassed 10 points in shootout to claim the title of Fairfield Resorts TPGA Father-Son Champions. The Rodgers duo played their way into last year’s shootout also but were denied victory by the Korth’s. This year, Charles and Chuck Mason (Newport), were the Rodgers opponents and started the two-hole shootout strong by taking a one-point lead after the first hole. Son Brandon Rodgers stuck his 140-yard approach shot to just 4 feet and made his birdie but to clinch redemption and the victory.
The rain-shortened event took its toll on the players and the course after a lightning delay during Saturday’s round and heavy rain delay during today’s round. After the course became unplayable the second round was cancelled and one hole prepared for the Shootout.
The format of the event was a Stableford point system whereby player’s scores earned points instead of a raw stroke score. This year’s runner ups, the Masons, shot one of the highest point totals in the events history after earning 100 points during the first round.
In it’s 27-year history the event continues to be one of the most popular events in the state of Tennessee as 217 players participated representing just over 100 families. Fairfield Resorts continues to be the title sponsor of this event and a great friend to golf in Tennessee. The Brae and Crag courses of Heatherhurst Golf Club hosts the event near Father’s Day weekend and despite its short length challenges the player to make putts.
