Presented by the City of Crossville:

competitors make their way to crossville for 2010 championship

(Franklin, TN)  Returning for a second consecutive visit to Stonehenge Golf Club at Fairfield Glade, the 2010 Golf Capital of Tennessee Women’s Open Championship Presented by the City of Crossville comes to town next week in search of the next Tennessee Women’s Open Champion. With a stacked field of notable competitors, the authentic volunteer spirit of the community and high level of competition this event brings, the 2010 Championship commands attention. The official championship will begin Thursday, July 22nd going thru Saturday, July 24th with contestants playing 54 holes at stroke play, then cut to the low 60 scorers and ties after round two’s 36 holes.

Contestants from the LPGA, Duramed Futures Tour, and collegiate and amateur stand-outs from all around the country make up this year’s field of 49 amateurs and 47 professionals. Out of the 96 women vying for the trophy, 52 hail from the state of Tennessee. A few of those hometown girls have recently posted some notable wins. One of those girls is coming fresh from Oakmont at the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open, finishing T31 (78-74-75-70) is Ashli Bunch of Morristown. Bunch who put on quite the show at last year’s Tennessee Women’s Open came out in third place (-6) and is ready to take this year’s first place spot. Franklin’s Ashley Lance (University of Mississippi) is also a strong contender to watch for. Lance, most recently landing in the runner-up position at last month’s Tennessee Women’s Amateur Championship and 2010 Women’s Southern Amateur Championship is ready to capture her next victory. After finishing 7 under and runner-up in 2009’s Tennessee Women’s Open, Katie Kempter of New Mexico is ready to make the win hers this year. Kathleen Robinson, (Alexandria, Virginia) 2006 past champion, has entered the field again with a taste for what the win feels like and would like to see her name engraved on the trophy one more time. With these few amongst the entire 96 person field, competition will not disappoint for the 2010 contest.

The Golf Capital of Tennessee Women’s Open will commence Wednesday, July 21st with practice rounds and The Golf Capital of Tennessee Women’s Open Reception, in exchange for the Pro Am. In benefit to the professional field, appearance fees that were formerly awarded in the Pro Am will be going back into the overall professional purse of $25,000.  Round one of competition will begin Thursday, July 22nd with a double tee start at 7:30 a.m. CST. The Championship runs through Saturday ending with a record setting day for the history books.  On the final round of play of this year’s Championship, the City has asked for spectators to be a part of the largest viewing on the 18th green in support of the Championship contestants. The target is to gather 1,000 spectators around the 18th green at Stonehenge Golf Club on Saturday, July 24, 2010 and create a day in Tennessee golf history. Join the excitement next week and help celebrate one of Tennessee’s most prestigious championships, The 2010 Golf Capital of Tennessee Women’s Open Championship Presented by the City of Crossville.
