Ben Reeves of Knoxville is the 49th
Annual Tennessee Junior Amateur Champion. Coming into the day with a two shot
lead over fellow Knoxville native Stuart Thomas, Reeves kept his composure all
day to card a 2-over par 74. Play began with rain and ended the same. After a
45 minute rain delay at 11:30am play resumed at 12:30pm. The skies parted and a
glimpse of sunshine fell upon Chattanooga’s Black Creek Club. At 3:55pm the
second rain delay came into town and all but the final two group were in the
clubhouse. After a 25 minute delay, the final two groups resumed, and Reeves
finished in style. With a daunting 60 foot downhill put on the par 5 eighteenth
hole, Reeves calmly lagged the ball two feet short. After knocking in the par
putt, Reeves 69-66-74-209 total claimed the championship by a single stroke
over Peyton Sliger of Maryville. Knoxville’s Jack Smith and Stuart Thomas
finished in a tie for third at 4-under par 212.
The rains continued to fall on day two
of the 49th Annual
Tennessee Junior Amateur Championship. After round 1 had to be suspended due to
dangerous thunderstorms on Tuesday, half of the 72 player field had to return
Wednesday morning to resume play at 8:00am. Round 2 got underway without a
hitch and Black Creek Club of Chattanooga has produced a 36 hole leader who
refuses to let the elements get the best of him. Been Reeves of Knoxville
followed up his first round 69 with a 6-under par 66 on Wednesday. Reeves 36
hole score of 9-under par 135 leads fellow Knoxville native Stuart Thomas by 2
strokes heading into Thursday’s final round. Three players are tied at 5-under
par 139. Round 3 gets under way at 8:00am EDT Thursday morning.
