Overview The PGA/PGM™ University Programs, a four-and-one-half year college curriculum for aspiring PGA Professionals, is a structured educational program endorsed by The PGA of America. PGA/PGM™ University Programs provide students the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the golf industry through extensive classroom studies, internship experience and player development. Since its inception in 1975, more than 1,900 students have graduated from the PGA/Professional Golf Management™ Programs. More than 1,300 students are enrolled in the program today.
Curriculum Students attending a PGA/PGM™ University program can graduate with a baccalaureate degree in majors ranging from Marketing or Business Administration to Hospitality Administration or Recreation and Park Management. In addition to classroom studies, each student is required to complete an internship of at least 16 months at golf facilities with a PGA head golf professional. Students also are required to complete the majority of the requirements in The PGA/PGM ’s Golf Professional Training Program (GPTP) and pass a Playing Ability Test (PAT). These requirements satisfy a major portion of The PGA of America’s membership requirement.
Entrance Requirements Prospective students must meet the PGA/PGM™ university entrance requirements in addition to having a minimum golf handicap of 8 or lower certified by a PGA professional or high school golf coach. Application should be made as early in the academic year as possible to ensure consideration for the fall semester. Enrollment will be limited to 300 total students at each university program at any given time.
Financial Assistance Each PGA/PGM™ university offers financial assistance to deserving students through scholarships, work-study programs, loans and grants. All student-aid inquiries should be made directly to the respective university’s financial aid office.
Internships: Class A PGA members wishing to employ PGA/PGM™ students during their internships should contact the director of each PGM Program.
Accredited Universities The following are universities endorsed by The PGA of America for their PGA/PGM™ programs, and the year established. Contact the director for specific university curriculum and majors.
