(Cookeville, TN) The Bobby Nichols Ironwood Classic was held at Ironwood Golf Course featuring 54 professionals and amateurs from all over the state of Tennessee. The day started off with a short rain storm which seemed to bring in some cool weather for the rest of the day. Despite this unusually cool weather for this summer Audie Johnson, from Lebanon Country Club was able to keep his golf game hot and by doing so win the Professional division with a -4 under par round of 68 (-4). For his efforts he took home the first place prize of $1,000. In the Senior Professional Division, Randy Helton, PGA, Riverbend Country Club and Mark Houser, PGA, TN Golf Trail at Warriors Path also shot a four under (-4) 68 to tie for the division. They followed play with a playoff starting on hole number one. After going head to head for two holes in the playoff Helton edged out Houser with a par on the second hole.
In the Regular Amateur Division Scott McGaha (Knoxville) defended his title with a one under (-1) 71. Bob Clark won the Senior Amateur division after firing in a three under (-3) 69.
Tennessee PGA Professionals and amateurs from all over the state came to remember long time head Professional and owner of Ironwood Golf Course, Bobby Nichols. Bobby was remembered for his love of the game, the Tennessee PGA, and hosting this tournament. We hope everyone will come out for next year’s event which will be hosted in September. Many thanks to Gary Maxwell (Gary Maxwell Insurance) for his support of this event. Other sponsors who we would like to mention are; Putnam Farmers Co-Op, 1st National Bank, and Ironwood Golf Course. The Tennessee PGA would like to thank all of the sponsors and the employees of Ironwood Golf Course for all the hard work put into the tournament.
