, TN ­­-- On a scorching hot day at Memphis Country Club Assistant Golf Professionals from all over the state of Tennessee competed in the Tennessee PGA Callaway Golf Assistants Championship. With temperatures in the high 90’s and the heat index well into the 100’s players trucked around Memphis Country Club playing 36 holes in the one day Championship. After round 1 Nick Bailes from Brentwood Country Club had a four stroke lead after turning in an impressive two under par 68 (-2).

          Going into the second eighteen holes of the day, four players were tied for second after shooting two over par 72 (+2).Kevin Boylewas one of these players. Boyle the Assistant Professional at Germantown Country Club started off his second round with a few birdies which allowed him to gain some momentum and confidence. Going into the final nine holes the only thing hotter than Boyle was the heat index. Boyle who chipped in for birdie numerous times seemed to be catching all of the breaks. Finishing with a stellar 66 Kevin Boyle was crowned the 2010 Callaway Assistants Champion. Boyle and second place finisher Bailes will go on to compete at the National Assistants Championship held in Port St. Lucie, FL.

          Winners of special contests throughout the day were Scott Masters (Fox Den Country Club) and Drew Cain (Memphis Country Club) who were the winners of the closest to the hole challenge on hole number 7 and 10 respectfully. Congratulations to Josh Coley and Jake Reeves who tied for first place in the Callaway Ball Pool. If players opted to use the Callaway Golf Ball or Callaway Driver they were eligible to compete for an additional $1,000. The pool paid the top 3 competitors Coley and Reeves tied for first with Aaron Clark rounding out the top three.

          The staff at Memphis Country Club, led by PGA Head Professional Tim Rush, treated the players to a special day at a first class venue.  A special thank you to Callaway Golf for supporting the Tennessee PGA and sponsoring this great event.
