Lew Oehmig
(1916-2002)





%    He won seven Chattanooga Metro Men’s Amateur Championships (1934, 1939, 1948, 1949, 1951, 1955 & 1978)

%    Lew Oehmig has won the Tennessee State Amateur eight times (1937, 1949, 1951, 1952, 1955, 1962, 1970, 1971) plus six second-place finishes

%    He was won the Tennessee Senior Amateur seven times (1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1982, 1983)

%    He has won three USGA Senior Amateur Championships (1972, 76, 85), his third at the age of sixty-nine

%    1977 he was captain of the US Walker Cup Team

%    1994 he received the Bob Jones Award, the USGA’s highest honor

%    Lew Oehmig was inducted as charter member into the Tennessee Golf Hall of Fame in 1990

 

Lew Oehmig’s victories in State and Nationals events span five decades.  Until 2003, Lew held the title of oldest USGA Champion, by winning the US Senior Amateur at age 69.  He served as a director of the Southern Golf Association for many years and served as president of the Tennessee Golf Association in 1948, 1957 and 1967. Along with being a charter member of the Tennessee Golf Hall of Fame, he is also a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, the Southern Golf Association Hall of Fame, and Chattanooga area Old Timers Sports Hall of Fame.
