ABOUT THE TGF
The Tennessee Golf Foundation is strengthening the game of
golf in Tennessee by utilizing the power of the resources in each region, its
directors will positively impact the game and its participants – regardless of
age, gender or ethnicity. Tennessee has always been the model state in such
areas as: cooperative golf administration, junior golf development, The First
Tee and a corporate culture that emphasizes collaboration between amateurs and
professionals, men and women, juniors and seniors. All have worked together in
building the state’s memorable golf history that continues to be written.
CORE VALUES
• Over
1,000 participants have been impacted by The First Tee curriculum
including various levels of its Life Skills Experience in the six programming
sites overseen by The First Tee of Nashville (Tri-Cities, Clarksville, Fort
Campbell, Jackson, Franklin and Nashville).
• Over
20,000 elementary school students in 47 schools throughout Nashville,
Clarksville and Fort Campbell have been taught golf’s life-enhancing core
values as a part of the TGF funded The First Tee National School Program.
• Scholarships
to the Tennessee PGA Junior Golf Academy were given to 24 children of the
military from Ft. Campbell and another 89 were given to participants from The
First Tee from Tennessee and other states.
INSTRUCTION • 1,100 young
people ages 4-17 took part in golf learning programs and special events at The
Little Course at Conner Lane through day camps, clinics, tournaments and home
school programs. Another 1,430 students received golf instruction through our
Golf House Tennessee Learning Center in-school program.
• 392 young
people attended the Tennessee PGA Junior Golf Academy (operated by the TGF)
from Tennessee and 11 different states. 48% of 2012’s campers received some
sort of financial aid, including reduced tuition for all female participants.
• An improved
short game practice facility was built at The Little Course at Conner Lane in
2011 and fully utilized in 2012. It included a new MiniVerde® green and
practice bunker. At The VinnyLinks, a new driving range net, 7,500 square foot
MiniVerde® putting & chipping green and a large new practice bunker were
built to improve instruction opportunities at the home of The First Tee of
Nashville.
JUNIOR COMPETITIONS • The 2012
season on the statewide Toyota TGA Junior Tour had 1,518 members, a new record.
There were over 7,400 rounds played in just 44 days, surpassing last year’s
record by 400 rounds. The TGF conducted 131 competitions for junior golfers
across the state in 2012 using both full-time staff and a network of 21
interns.
• In the TGF’s
third year of operating the Tennessee Middle School Golf Association (TMSGA),
758 players participated from 70 boys teams and 63 girls teams schools across
the Volunteer State, spanning from Memphis to Bristol. TMSGA is the only
statewide operated middle school competitive program in the U.S.
• The
inaugural Tennessee Junior Cup, hosted by Scott Stallings and Friends was held
at Vanderbilt Legends Club October 13 and 14. This Ryder Cup style event for
the junior golfers in Tennessee featured Knoxville’s Scott Stallings captaining
Team East and Nashville’s Brandt Snedeker captaining Team West. Team West
captured the inaugural match and the “Scott Stallings Trophy” with its 14.5 to
9.5 victory.
GOLF'S TRADITIONS & HISTORY • The TGF taught 12 two-hour junior rules clinics emphasizing the rules and etiquette of the game to 639 Toyota TGA Junior Tour players, parents and middle school coaches. In 2012, the TGF offered these clinics through either in-person clinics or through online webinars to all junior competitors and parents, increasing the impact of this important component of the game. • The Rules of
Golf are also a curriculum component at the TPGA Junior Golf Academy, The First
Tee and Little Course at Conner Lane programs and events.
• The TGA
Junior Tour emphasizes etiquette and sportsmanship through the “Spirit of Golf
Award” given to the participant in each of the Tour’s three divisions (Masters,
Tour & Micro). The award best exemplifies sportsmanship during the eight
week season. Each Junior Tour competitor receives exposure to the game’s core
values on printed materials and on their annual achievement plaques.
