The State Team Championship is a bi-annual event conducted by the USGA. The USGA invites teams from all 50 states and Peurto Rico to compete. Teams consist of 3 players, and if a state so chooses it may send a non-playing team captain or designate one of their team members to serve as the playing captain. The teams compete in a 54 hole stroke play event with the lowest two scores counting for each round. States are responsible for setting their own team selection criteria or selection guidelines.
