Don Malarkey Memorial Open Results

This year’s event was renamed the Don Malarkey Memorial Open in honor of Mr. Malarkey after he passed away a few weeks ago.  The players celebrated the life of Mr. Malarkey by participating in the event named in his honor.  PGA Professional and Don’s son, Mike Malarkey greeted each participant on the tee during the first round just like Don did for many years.

In the Senior Division, amateur Bob Clark (Cordova) shoots –6 under par to claim the win.  He bettered PGA Professional Mark Houser (Kingsport) by one shot.  PGA Professional James Paschal (Hendersonville) followed suit by shooting –4 under par for the event.  Tied for fourth place were amateurs Jess Voorhies (Winchester) and Doug Harris (Franklin) who each shot 66 today to finish at –3 under par.  Amateurs Bill Crawford (Nashville) and Barry Klinikowski (Lebanon) finished tied for sixth place at –1 under par.

In the Regular Division, local amateur Chris Gilliland (Chattanooga) ended the two round tournament at –10 under par to get his name engraved on the trophy.  He outdueled PGA Professional Loren Personett (Antioch) who fired the low round of the tournament with a 64, -7 under par and amateur Hudson Keener (Dalton, GA) who each finished at –6 under par for the tournament.  Professionals Buddy Harston (Whites Creek) and James Van De Griff (Knoxville) tied for fourth place after shooting –5 under par.  Amateur Braxton Hunter (Rockford) shot –4 under par.  Tied for seventh place was PGA Professionals Chris Dibble (Knoxville) and Greg Wyatt (Crossville) who each shot –3 under par. 

This year’s event was played at the 6,100-yard par 71 Signal Mountain Golf & Country Club.  Amateurs and professionals came from across the state to compete in this great event which honors Mr. Don Malarkey “Old Pro”, member of the Tennessee Golf Hall of Fame and Pro Emeritus at Signal Mountain G&CC.

Alexian Villages of Tennessee (Signal Mountain) and Blood Assurance are sponsors of the event, which is in its 23^rd year.
