CODY HALE CAPTURES 2008 SUNTRUST STATE OPEN
(Nashville, TN) Amateur Cody Hale shot a final round 68 to finish the tournament at 202 (11 under par) and claim the 2008 SunTrust State Open at Gaylord Springs Golf Links. Hale's second round 64 catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard after yesterday's second round and he never trailed in today's final round. Hale, who is from Tullahoma, recently graduated from David Lipscomb University where he played collegiately.
Coming in second place and taking home low professional honors was Ooltewah's Josh Coley who finished the tournament at 205 (8 under par). Coley will take home $10,000 for claiming low professional honors.
Finishing in a tie for third at 208 (five under par) were Amateur Danny Green (Jackson) and Professional Loren Personett (Nashville). Defending champion Derek Rende finished at 217 (four over par) which put him into a tie for 35th place.
The SunTrust State Open Championship presented by Coca-Cola is one of Tennessee's oldest and most prestigous championships. The event annually pits the state's top amateurs and professionals against each other to determine a true state golf champion.
