Crossville to Sponsor the Tennessee Women’s Open Championship

The Golf Capital of Tennessee Women’s Open

(Franklin)  The Tennessee Golf Association announced today that Crossville, known as the Golf Capital of Tennessee, will be serving as title sponsor for the Tennessee Women's Open Championship.  The championship will now be the Golf Capital of Tennessee Women's Open Championship.  The City of Crossville and Cumberland County have been involved with the Tennessee Women's Open for the last four years providing support, volunteers, and sponsoring the championships pro am.  The Golf Capital of Tennessee Pro Am will take place on Saturday, July 19th at The Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain.  Proceeds from the pro am will benefit Cumberland County Junior Golf.  This year will mark not only the fifth year for Crossville to be involved, but this year welcomes the 10th Anniversary of the Tennessee Women's Open.

The Golf Capital of Tennessee Women's Open pits Tennessee's, and states that border Tennessee, best amateurs against some of the country's top lady professional's.  Past champions include Karen Davies, professional from Carefree, AZ, Kathleen Robinson, professional from Alexandria, VA, and Courtney Wood, former Vanderbilt University standout (All-SEC, 2003) from Brentwood, TN.  Courtney is the only player in the tournaments history to win as an amateur and as a professional.  Vanderbilt teammate (2001-2004) Sarah Jacobs (Nashville) won as an amateur in 2003.  The overall low professional will take home $7,000 in prize money this year.

The Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain will serve as the host golf club for the Golf Capital of Tennessee Women's Open.  This will be the 5th consecutive year that Cumberland Mountain has hosted.  The championship will take place July 21-23 in Crossville.
