2008 Team Selection Process

Lissa Bradford, Captain

The Champion from The Wally and the Champion from the TGA Girls Junior Amateur will be named to the team.  Immediately following the TGA Girls Junior Amateur in July, the Committee will meet to choose two more team members and an alternate.  The National Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings will be the primary source for the selection committee.   All team members MUST be available to play the practice round in order to accept their position on the team.  All inquiries on the Ruth Eller Cup Matches should be addressed to Lissa Bradford, TGF Junior Golf Director.  615-790-3336 or lbradford@pgahq.com.

History
The Ruth Eller Cup match was founded in 1996, by Marlene Streit (Canada) and Judy Eller Street (Tennessee), in order to bring together four outstanding junior girl golfers from the state of Tennessee and four top junior girls from Ontario for two days of competitive match play. The event is held in Tennessee and in Ontario in alternate years. The Ruth Eller Cup has been named in honor of Judy Street's mother, Ruth Eller, one of the pioneers of Tennessee junior golf. Each competing entity (Ontario and Tennessee) select the team members by a procedure determined by the funding organizations.

Funding
The Marlene Streit Awards Funds (MSAF), established in 1965 and administered by the Ontario Ladies' Golf Association promotes Canadian junior girls' golf by providing travel expenses for select junior competitions outside Canada.  The MSAF selects and funds four junior girls from Ontario to play in the Ruth Eller Cup Matches.

The Tennessee Golf Foundation in concert with the Tennessee Golf Association provides funding for the Tennessee competitors.  This funding was made possible by a generous contribution to the Tennessee Golf Foundation
by Gordon Street and Judy Eller Street.

Format
The matches are conducted using a modified Curtis Cup/Commomwealth format; two FOUR BALL matches the first morning, two FOURSOME matches that afternoon and four SINGLES matches the next morning.  One point is awarded for a win or half a point to each team or player for a tie after completing the 18 hole matches.  In the event of a tie in total team points scored, the defending team will retain the Ruth Eller Cup.  If matches are cancelled due to inclement weather, a team champion can only be declared if at least four matches have been completed.
