 “The Tennessee Golf Foundation is thrilled to be able to positively impact more youth in our area and allow them to experience the benefits associated with The First Tee. Clarksville and Tri-Cities are great communities that deserve the opportunity to have this wonderful program available to their children,” said Steve Merrill, senior vice president of the Tennessee Golf Foundation.

The First Tee of Clarksville is located 50 miles outside of Nashville at the Ironworkers Practice Club and expects to impact over 100 young people in the Montgomery County and the Fort Campbell (KY) U.S. Army installation areas in 2008.  Programming will begin June 3 for young people 8-17 for a program fee of $40 for the nine-week summer program; scholarships are available.

“We are happy that Dave Burke and the Ironworkers Practice Facility saw the benefit of how The First Tee and the Life Skills Experience can make a difference in the lives of young people and help improve the community,” said Thelma Ewell, program director of The First Tee of Nashville.

The First Tee of Tri-Cities will operate at four facilities:  Cattails at MeadowView in Kingsport, Pine Oaks GC in Johnson City, Steele Creek GC in Bristol, TN and Clear Creek GC in Bristol, VA.  The First Tee of Tri-Cities expects to reach over 120 participants in 2008.  Young people ages 10-17 can join The First Tee of Tri-Cities for a program fee of $45 for the nine-week summer program; scholarships are available. 

“The First Tee curriculum will positively impact young people in the Tri-Cities region at our four programming sites. We wouldn’t be able to bring this program to the area without the support of the communities and their golf facilities. It’s our hope to develop better citizens in Tri-Cities through this program,” said Chad Anderson, regional director for the Tennessee Golf Foundation.

In both Clarksville and Tri-Cities, the program fee enters the participant them into The First Tee Life Skills Experience, a curriculum that uses the game of golf as a vehicle to teach character education and promote The First Tee Nine Core Values.
