The TRANS travels back to TENNESSEE
One of amateur golf’s most prestigious events, the Women's TRANS Amateur Championship, chose to return to Tennessee for a second time. This will be the 79th year of competition for this historic championship, where the first was played at Blue Hills Country Club in Kansas City, Missouri in June of 1927. It is now one of the "Big Three" national amateur tournaments for women played in the United States.
The TRANS last appearance in the “Volunteer State” was in 1995 at the Golf Club of Tennessee close to Nashville. Greg Norman’s Tennessee National, near the city of Knoxville, will play host July 20-25 and will crown 2009’s champion.
The champion will come from a strong field of contenders. The field will be set June 5, while 55 contestants have already been accepted. The showcase of competition will be high, 32 of the 55 selected contenders have less than a one handicap, and 21 of those 32 have PLUS handicaps. The remaining 65 positions will be filled on or before the June 5, 2009 acceptance date. The championship title is at stake, sign up to compete among some of the best women amateurs.
